It deals with the science of converting lower metals in to gold or other form. Drugs used in Siddha medicine were classified on the basis of five properties.

  • Veerya (Potency)
  • Pirivu (Lass)
  • Mahimai (Action)
Siddha Vs Ayurveda :

Generally the basic concepts of the Siddha medicine are almost similar to Ayurveda. The only difference appears to be that the Siddha medicine recognizes predominance of vatham, pitham and kapam in childhood, adulthood and old age respectively, whereas in Ayurveda it is totally reversed: kapam is dominant in childhood, vatham in old age and pitham in adults.

Siddha science considers nature and man as essentially one. Nature is man and man is nature. Man is said to be the microcosm and Universe is the macrocosm because what exists in the world exists in man. Man is nothing but a miniature world containing the five elements of the various principles which constitute the minerals, vegetables and the animal kingdom. According to Siddha medical science , the Universe originally consisted of atoms which contributed to the five basic elements, viz., earth, water, fire, air and sky which correspond to the five senses of the human body and they were the fundamentals of all the corporeal things in the world.

Siddha Medicine is contributing much to the health care of human beings and Siddha Vaidya could be considered as the crown of all the traditional arts of the ancient world owing to its richness and simplicity. No doubt, the Siddha System of Medicine is one among the foremost of all other medical systems of the world. The other systems are concerned with treatment and preventive aspects only, but Siddha Medicine is the only system which bestows immortality.
The Siddha System considers a patient, his attendant, drug and the physician should function in harmony for a healthy living. This is stressed by Thiruvalluvar.
"Uttravan theerppan marunthuzhai selvaanen
drappal naal kootre marunthu"

Siddha Medical Science has a wide range of application in Medical and Non-Medical fields.
